Last week, Vodafone Idea, India's third-largest telco, introduced four new prepaid plans for its users in India. Ranging from Rs. 155 to Rs. 699, these new plans are available to all Vi users across the country. This move has ensured that the telcos' tariff readjustments continue.

The four new plans Vi has launched are as follows:

  • Rs. 155 Plan: In this plan, the users get 1 GB of data, unlimited calls, and 300 SMSes. The plan comes with a validity of 24 days and comes as one of the entry-level plans from Vi.
  • Rs. 239 Plan: This plan is basically the previous plan, apart from the fact that the user gets 1 GB of data each day, along with unlimited calls, and 300 SMSes. The plan comes with a validity of 24 days as well.
  • Rs. 666 Plan: This is a unique plan in the sense that it is the only plan in the market right now that offers 77 days of validity. During the 11 weeks, a customer gets access to 1.5 GB of data/day, along with 100 SMS/day. What's more, this plan also comes bundled with a subscription to Vi Movies and TV, and Vi Hero Unlimited. Under the latter, the user gets 2 GB of backup data, unlimited nighttime data, and weekend data rollover.
  • Rs. 699 Plan: The most expensive new plan that came out last week, Vi users get 3 GB/day, 100 SMSes/day, and subscriptions to Vi Movies and TV and Vi Hero Unlimited.

These plans, while unique, represent a shift in focus. After the recent tariff hikes, Vodafone Idea was the only telco that left some of its data plans untouched. For instance, the telco did not change the prices of its plans that come bundled with a Disney+Hotstar subscription.

The telco has been working to provide greater value to its customers in order to monetize the said value. Therefore, following the route of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, the telco has started to build its digital content ecosystem by introducing content services such as a music streaming service. To that extent, the company has recently inked a deal with Hungama Music to offer 6 months premium subscription to all Vi customers, at the My Vi app.
