Vodafone Idea Makes Another OTT Move

According to a press note, Vi will offer 6 months premium subscription of Hungama Music to all its customers. Incidentally, the telco will not charge any customer who activates their subscription. Therefore, Vi users get access to ad-free music across 20 languages and multiple genres. Moreover, Vi users can attend up to 52 live Digital Concerts on the Vi App, at a small fee.

At the launch event, Avneesh Khosla, CMO, Vi said, “today I am pleased to announce our partnership with Hungama Music which will help fulfill our customers’ need for a comprehensive music streaming service. This association is in line with our strategy of helping our customers stay ahead with the best-in-class services through partnerships with domain experts".

Khosla added that the partnership will allow Vi users access to Hungama's "rich repository of diverse music".

At the same event, Neeraj Roy, Founder, Hungama Digital Media said, “we are excited to be a part of Vi's 250+ million-strong customers’ musical journey. Our association with Vi has seen us introduce a first-of-its-kind Pay Per View service model in India’s exploding Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) market, earlier this year".

Roy added, "the partnership aligns with Hungama's aim to explore and develop innovative ways to entertain and engage audiences across the world. Our repertoire is consistently expanding to include a diverse, and rich line-up of multi-genre, multi-lingual content across audio, video, and gaming".

The telco has added another OTT-based content offering to its portfolio. Notably, Vi already has services that offer content such as entertainment, health & fitness, and education & skilling. With Bharti Airtel and Jio competing hard in the OTT segment, Vi has doubled down on its efforts as well. Since both its rivals offer music streaming services - Airtel's Wynk Music and Jio's JioSaavn - this was the next logical step.
