Reliance Jio Bolstering Frequency Support

In Karnataka, the telco acquired additional 5 MHz of 850 MHz band; 5 MHz of 1800 MHz band; and 10 MHz of 2300 MHz band. Via a press release, it announced that it has gone ahead with the deployment of all the three spectrums across all 22.3K sites spread across the state.

This move doubles the total usable frequency in 850 MHz. Furthermore, it also increases the available frequency by a quarter in the 2300 MHz band.

The telco expects manifold improvements in the network experience for Jio users in Karnataka. Notably, Reliance Jio is looking to augment its spectrum in light of the pandemic. This move will certainly improve network, that will help with use cases such as work from home and online education.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned telco has around 2.1 crore subscribers in the state. To support the user base, the telco also has more than 22.3 thousand true 4G network sites in the state.

Notably, the telco was the biggest shark at the latest auction, landing spectrum worth Rs.57,123 crores. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea shopped for less than half of that combined.

In the statement, the telco also said that it was targeting the 300 million 2G users, and teased its upcoming 5G services.
