Reliance Jio Deploys Additional 20 MHz Spectrum across Odisha

On Friday, Reliance Jio deployed an additional 20 MHz spectrum in Odisha, taking its total spectrum holdings to 60 MHz in the state.

In the March spectrum auction, the telco had acquired additional spectrum in 800 MHz, 1.8 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands. On Friday, it deployed 20 MHz spectrum across these three bands in Odisha. A company statement read that it acquired an additional 20 MHz spectrum including 5 MHz of 800MHz band; 5 MHz of 1800MHz band; and 10 MHz of 2300 MHz band in the recent spectrum auction in the state. It has now deployed the same in the state.

Reliance Jio acquired a total of 488.35MHz spectrum in 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands for 22 circles in the recent spectrum auction at a cost of Rs.57,123 crores for a period of 20 years.

The telco now holds 60 MHz spectrum across all bands in Odisha, which it claims will help improve network coverage and capacity. In the current times of working and studying from home, this can prove to be vital for the telco to maintain network quality across the state.

Reliance Jio has over 1.4 crore mobile subscribers in the state, it said. Along with that, it has over 41% of mobile subscribers in Odisha. Also, Reliance Jio leads with over 50% market share in gross revenue in the state, the statement said. Also, Jio has the largest footprint in the state with over 10,000 true 4G sites in Odisha.
