Wipro CEO Abid to step down

Abidali (Abid) Z. Neemuchwala, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Wipro Limited is stepping down from his post.  The man who has to his credit for overseeing the $8 billion-worth company and heading more than 160,000 employees has decided to step down owing to family commitments.

With this decision by Abid, the Board of Directors has initiated a search to identify the next Chief Executive Officer. Abid will continue to hold the office of CEO & Managing Director until a successor is appointed for a smooth transition and to ensure that business continues as usual.

Commenting on Abid's exit, Chairman  Rishad Premji thanked Abid for his leadership and his contributions to Wipro. He said over the last four years, Abid helped build a strong execution mindset, drove key acquisitions and scaled the company's Digital business globally.

We have made considerable progress in our transformation journey, improved our delivery engine and institutionalised deeper client centricity. I thank Azim Premji, Rishad, our Board of Directors, my Wipro colleagues and customers for their support over the years.”

Abid is known to have over 25 years of experience in the IT services industry. Previously as the COO, Abid spearheaded several initiatives that helped create a more nimble and agile organization and accelerated Wipro’s ability to not only respond to customers in the digital age but also ensure deeper employee engagement. 

Prior to Wipro, Abid has held key leadership roles with Tata Consultancy Services, in business, technology, sales, operations and consulting. He was recognized as the BPO CEO of the year in 2010. In 2012, he was recognized for his contribution to the IT services industry by the Shared Services Organization of IPOC.

Abid has a Master’s degree in Industrial Management from lIT Mumbai and a Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication from NIT, Raipur. He is a Certified Software Quality Analyst and a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
