UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Oliver Dowden has stated that his government has ordered Huawei to remove its equipment by 2027.

This ban now prevents UK’s network operators from buying 5G components from Huawei, effective from December 31st, 2020. The government has also instructed the operators to remove all current Huawei gear made by the Chinese company from the 5G network by 2027.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the UK’s National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in response to new US sanctions against the telecom major imposed in May, which removed the firm’s access to products built based on US semiconductor technology.

A Reuters news report states that U.S. President Donald Trump claimed to be responsible for Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to ban Huawei from Britain’s 5G network.

“We convinced many countries, many countries, I did this myself, for the most part, not to use Huawei, because we think it is an unsafe security risk, it’s a big security risk,” ― Reuters had carried this Trump's quote.

Samsung, notably, is wooing the governments of the world by showing off its latest leap into 6G research. On July 14th, Samsung released a white paper entitled ‘The Next Hyper-Connected Experience for All’ outlining the company’s vision for the next generation communication system – 6G.

The white paper covers various aspects related to 6G, including technical and societal megatrends, new services, requirements, candidate technologies, and an expected timeline of standardization. Maybe this white paper is released at a time to attract UK and other countries wanting to build its 5G infrastructure.
