Vodafone to pump in Rs 480 crore to upgrade 3G network in UP

NEW DELHI: Telecom company Vodafone India has said that it has invested over Rs 480 crore for upgrading its network and distribution in Uttar Pradesh East circle over the past 12 months (April 2014-Mar 2015).

"Already the preferred mobile services provider in terms of subscriber base, revenue market share, Retail touch points, Vodafone has been focusing on closer engagement and enhancing customer experience in an endeavour to be future ready,” the company said.

“Pursuing an accelerated growth strategy since April 2014, Vodafone has expanded its network footprint by adding over 800 new 3G sites across Uttar Pradesh East in the past 12 months. This expansion has brought more than 4.5 crore residents across multiple regions of Uttar Pradesh East within the Vodafone 3G network,” the company further claimed.

Uttar Pradesh East is the largest telecom services network. Vodafone now has 12200+3G and 2G sites in Uttar Pradesh East covering over close to 97% of the circle’s population. Specifically to spread awareness and increase adoption of mobile internet, Vodafone has been hand holding customers through on ground engagement and education initiatives.

Consequently, 3G now contributes to 55%+ of data revenues and 60%+ of data volumes. Data is growing at 90% YoY and total Data Users are now at 50% of enabled handset base. Data revenues contribute to 35% of incremental service revenue.

In line with its quest to democratize data and make 3G services accessible to all, Vodafone has introduced a choice of pocket friendly 3G plans starting from as low as Rs 15.

Vodafone’s 3G data portfolio also includes a variety of weekly packs, night packs and monthly packs with limited and unlimited 3G data benefits, ranging from Rs 27 to Rs 1,499.

The company has also been undertaking data onboarding campaigns designed to educate customers about their data balance, 2G and 3G services, ideal data packs basis unique customer needs.

With already one of the country’s largest exclusive retail footprint, Vodafone has continued to expand its reach to cover 97% population of Uttar Pradesh East.

Presently, Vodafone has more than 2.25 Lac+ retail outlets in the circle, and close to 800 Vodafone stores.

Over the past 12 months, Vodafone has launched 11 global design stores in the circle,as part of an initiative to offer an unmatched retail experience to its new age customers. Whether it is London in UK or Lucknow, Vodafone Global Design Stores offer a uniform customer experience.

Besides multiple on-going schemes and customised tariff plans, some of the more notable introductions from Vodafone have been the launch of M-Pesa, a mobile banking and payment solution that has seen high affinity amongst migrant population in the city and VodafoneAngel Stores entirely staffed and run by women employees, a report said.
