Vodafone Idea Teams With Cisco to Develop 5G-ready Network for Retail, Enterprise Users

Vodafone Idea on Wednesday said that it has joined hands with Cisco to automate its network to support 4G and, in the future, 5G.

Vodafone Idea on Wednesday said that it has joined hands with Cisco to automate its network to support 4G and, in the future, 5G to offer enhanced user experience to its consumer, retail and enterprise customers.

Vodafone Idea and Cisco Come Together for 5G-Ready Network

The telco said that it will work with Cisco to design and build a cost-efficient network architecture. This will allow Vodafone Idea to drive greater speed with opportunities in 4G, 5G, cloud, and IoT.

The statement said that Cisco will deploy its Ultra Packer Core to Vodafone Idea's network architecture. This will enable the telco to deploy new software applications and services, including voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi).

The statement added that Cisco will also offer Vi functions such as automation and analytics, with the solution.

Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea, said that the telco has committed to provide seamless connectivity to its customers. He also added that Vi aims to do so by enhancing user experiences, empowered by an intelligent and automated network. He further added that Vi is happy to partner with Cisco to achieve the same.

Adam MacHale, VP, EMEAR Service Provider, Cisco, said, "Vi is committed to delivering best-in-class services to their subscribers and bridging the digital divide that separates urban from rural areas… This is a significant step forward in India's transformation journey".

He added, "it puts Vi in a strong position to take advantage of the future opportunities that 5G, cloud and IOT Services will bring, supporting critical industry sectors such as healthcare and education".
