Usha Shriram joins hands with Champion Computers to manufacture mobile handsets in India

New Delhi-based consumer durable company Usha Shriram said that it has partnered with IT and communications firm Champion Computers to start manufacturing of mobile handsets in India under USHA SHRIRAM brand.

NEW DELHI: New Delhi-based consumer durable company Usha Shriram said that it has partnered with IT and communications firm Champion Computers to start manufacturing of mobile handsets in India under USHA SHRIRAM brand.

Champion Computers has initially planned to manufacture 6 feature phones and 4 smartphones with a frequency of adding 3-4 new models every month. The mobile phones hence produced will be 100 percent Made in India products.

“We look forward to expand our relationship with Champion Computers as we work to improve mobile handsets based on consumers’ demand," said Satnam Sandhu, senior vice president, Usha Shriram.

Champion Computers is an ISO 9001 company and has been in the business since 1995. With its well established and fully functional manufacturing facilities in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, Champion Computers is regarded as one of the most experienced players in IT Industry which is manufacturing mobile devices and other electronic products for many brands.

“We have already scaled up our production line to meet the upcoming demand. We have a massive potential for both development as well as manufacturing of latest mobile handsets at our facilities," said Kapil Wadhwa, MD, Champion Computers.

Presently, IT and communications firm  has the capacity of producing 6 million handsets which it plans to double to meet the growing demand going forward. Starting its operations and manufacturing in 2013, as one of the first Make in India initiatives, Champion is now a well experienced player in sourcing, supply chain management and manufacturing of feature phones, smartphones, tablet PCs, power banks, etc.

At a time when most companies are cutting back on their investment in manpower, Champion is going ahead with its plans of investing in more people to gain market leadership. The company is very bullish over increasing its market share with expanding its product portfolio and simultaneously investing more in increasing its highly talented staff strength. Apart from mobile phones, Champion has already started assembly of various mobile accessories which are soon to be launched in the market.

Last month, consumer durables maker company Usha Shriram had said that it will launch a range of smartphones and feature phones by February-end to foray into India’s mobile phone markets.

The company would primarily focus on tier II & III markets in the country with its GSM and CDMA phones whose prices would range between Rs 700 and Rs 10,000.
