UC Browser captures 50% India market share in mobile browsing

NEW DELHI: UCWeb Inc., of the Alibaba Group, has touched a new milestone with its flagship mobile browser UC Browser, registering over 50% market share as of September 2015,  according to the StatCounter in India. The company made this announcement at IAMAI Affiliate Summit 2015 in New Delhi.

UC claims that its UCWeb has witnessed a steep rise in market share, rising 15% in the last 12 months. As of today, 1 of every 2 mobile page viewed in India is accessed via UC Browser, says the company. The giant leap is result of UCWeb’s commitment towards India market where its iconic cloud-enabled browsing technology, ability to compress page to provide faster page loading & data cost saving and localized content has helped UC Browser to become the preferred mobile browser in India. UC Browser has also reached 16.82% worldwide market share as of September 2015, becoming the second most popular mobile browser after Chrome. UC Browser hit 100 million daily active users worldwide in December 2014, becoming one of the few apps enjoying such user engagement around the globe.

Commenting on the achievement, Kenny Ye, Managing Director of UCWeb India, Alibaba Mobile Business Group said, “India is the world’s fastest growing mobile country and our largest overseas market and we are deeply committed to it. We constantly strive to reach new users through unique customization and localization efforts, across genres. By providing a one-stop platform, UC Browser makes mobile services conveniently accessible, helping improve and reshape the mobile lifestyle of people worldwide. Going forward, we look to aid the Indian government in its ambitious mobile digital literacy campaign.”

The achievement is aided by the browser’s new launches like the UC Open Platform 2.0, an ecosystem to help Indian mobile internet players to acquire users and monetize traffic. UC Open Platform was announced last year to give a boost to the Indian mobile Internet ecosystem by helping mobile developers, content providers, publishers and advertisers to access across-the-board services for brand promotion, user/traffic acquisition, actionable user metric analysis, IP protection and monetization.

UC Open Platform provides in-depth localized operations and integrated promotion services through 3 international products – UC Browser, 9Apps & 9Game and UC Union. 9Apps & 9Game are popular Android app & game stores while UC Union is a global traffic platform that has a vast distribution network and abundant campaign offers.

Since the launch, UC Open Platform has grown together with multiple partners and has progressed to grow into a mature, across the board platform and sought after mobile networking platform in India. UC Browser’s market share has grown from 36% to over 50% since the launch last year, 9Apps and 9Game have increased its user base to 140 million (Global monthly active users) and UC Union has become the leading traffic monetization platform in India with over 4,000 daily campaigns.

UC Open Platform 2.0 aims to covers almost all mobile internet players in India, including content and service providers, affiliates, developers, agencies, ad networks, publishers and advertises – providing a full-suit promotion and monetization platform.
