In TRAI March Data for telecom subscription, Reliance Jio continued to outdo Bharti Airtel in subscriber addition. Also, Vodafone Idea also showed positive addition for a second straight month.

A Positive March for the Telcos

TRAI had released the data for March late on Friday, reflecting upon the last month of the previous fiscal. In March, there were 1,201.20 million mobile subscribers at the end of March-21. TRAI said that this translated in a monthly growth rate of 1.12%.

In terms of new users added, Reliance Jio came out on top again, with 7.92 million new wireless users added. In the same duration, Bharti Airtel added 4.06 million, followed by Vi’s 1.09 million.

The largest telco remains the largest telco - with some headspace too - it had a total wireless subscriber base of 422.92 million. Bharti Airtel followed with almost 80 million less users at 352.40 million users. Vodafone Idea made up the podium with 283.71 million users at the end of March 2021.

As per TRAI March Data, Jio’s market share stood at 35.81%. Bharti Airtel has 29.84% of the market and Vodafone Idea closed the month with 24.02%.

But Jio had the largest chunk of inactive subscribers as 91.22 million or 21.57% of its users remained inactive. Airtel had the highest ratio of active subscribers which constituted 97.72% of its total base while for Vi the percentage was 90.13%, TRAI data showed.
