The launch of BSNL's 4G services in the country will shortly begin, according to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). A Tata Group firm called Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) would assist BSNL in the introduction of domestic 4G. TCS and ITI Limited (Indian Telephone Industries Limited) have proposed bids to roll-out 4G services for BSNL.

The domestically built 4G core solution for the BSNL 4G network will be provided by Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT. Systems Integrator(SI) duties will be handled by TCS, and network hardware will be handled by Tejas Networks. Although reports suggest that expenses have been largely agreed by the two businesses, BSNL and TCS were reportedly having trouble agreeing on the project's cost.

According to a report from ET Telecom, ITI Limited would solely be responsible to roll-out BSNL's 4G utilizing equipment provided by TCS. By the end of October, TCS and BSNL had finished the proof-of-concept (PoC) for domestic 4G. According to the article, the bids will be publicly announced today. It must be noted that ITI has reserved 20% of the total 4G deployment for ITI.

TCS had received an order from BSNL earlier this year to provide equipment for 6400 radio sites that are anticipated to be deployed over the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands. In order to provide indigenous 4G services in India, BSNL would need an additional 5MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz range.

For a period of 10 years, TCS will be responsible for maintaining BSNL's network. Over 100,000 sites will be upgraded to 4G by BSNL throughout India. To supply radio that will be required in these places, TCS would need more than 18 to 24 months as estimated. Tejas Networks was acquired by Tata Sons in 2021, giving Tata Group a superior and finer hold over the project's expenses and schedule.

It is simple to upgrade C-DoT's core solution to 5G. At the recently concluded India Mobile Congress, 2022, held from Oct 1 to Oct 4, C-DoT even gave a demonstration of their in-house 5G core.
