Jio and Airtel are utilising distinct 5G technologies. Numerous individuals have been discussing this for several days at this point. The 5G rollout strategies of Jio and Airtel are different. Airtel is launching 5G NSA(non-standalone) , whereas Jio is deploying 5G SA (standalone) . The infrastructure for 5G SA is standalone and does not require a 4G core. The 4G core supports the 5G NSA. Despite the fact that both can give quite fast speeds, 5G SA can support use cases that 5G NSA cannot.

5G enabled Smartphone Support

The majority of 5G devices in the nation now support the 5G networks of Bharti Airtel and RelianceJio.  Devices that don't support it yet are already receiving OTA (over-the-air) upgrades or will do so soon. The handsets will start supporting 5G networks in India after the OTA upgrade. The upgrade for iPhones to support 5G networks in India has not yet been released. In December, Apple is anticipated to launch 5G support for its products in the Indian market. Recently, representatives of mobile phone manufacturing companies met top government officials and assured that they would gradually discontinue the production of 4G phones priced at or above Rs 10,000  and will shift to 5G technology. Top officials of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) held a meeting with the Mobile operators and Smartphone makers and directed them to tune in their 5G services with 5G smartphone within three months timeframe.

First cities to receive 5G services

The majority of the cities that Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio target are the same ones. Five cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Chennai, will be delivered 5G network services from Jio.  Jio is providing free 5G-enabled Wi-Fi in Nathdwara.  Whereas, Eight cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi, Chennai, Siliguri, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, will receive 5G network services from Airtel.  By the end of the year, more cities should be serviced by the telecoms.
