NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced the launch of Reliance Jio service in Mumbai while addressing company's 42nd Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today.
"With the launch of Jio, India’s digital mother tongue will be IP. Jio’s IP," said Ambani
“Starting coming Monday, the 5th of September 2016 Jio’s Data, Voice, Video and the full bouquet of Jio applications and content will be available for everyone , absolutely free, till 31st December 2016.We are calling this the Jio Welcome Offer,” said Ambani.
That means, Reliance Jio , the telecom unit of RIL, will launch its commercial operations from January 1st across India.
Jio sets a target of 100 million users in first year
"Today, Jio’s 4G network covers 18,000 cities and towns, and over 2 lakh villages. By March 2017, we will cover 90% of India’s population," he added.
To achieving 100 million users in first year, "We have redesigned the #Jio sign-up experience and made it 100% digital using an Aadhaar based eKYC process," said Ambani.
Over the next 4 to 6 weeks we will have this process in all our stores across India," said Ambani.
With this digital process, we will have a capacity to acquire a million customers a day," said Ambani.
"Any Jio customer carrying an Aadhaar card will be able to walk out of a Jio store with a working connection within 15 minutes," added Ambani.
"We are also planning to extend eKYC activation to our customers’ doorsteps," he said.
