Reliance Jio launches India's most cost-effective 4G Jio Bharat Phone

Through the "2G-Mukt Bharat" project, Reliance Jio seeks to update feature phones to the new Jio Bharat OS platform

Reliance Jio on Monday introduced its new 4G phone, JioBharat Phone. By offering the most cost-effective JioBharat 4G Phone in India at a low price of Rs 999, Reliance Jio has significantly sped up the nation's transition from 2G to 4G networks. For users who are still utilising 2G technology, this ground-breaking feature phone is also claimed to be created to provide affordable access to the excellent Jio 4G network.

Jio stated, “India still has 250 million mobile subscribers trapped in the 2G era with feature phones. These feature phones do not provide access to internet."

Through the "2G-Mukt Bharat" project, Reliance Jio seeks to update feature phones to the new Jio Bharat OS platform in order to provide a better user experience, including internet connectivity and the ability to make digital payments.

For the purpose of selling phones running the Jio Bharat OS, Reliance Jio is also reportedly collaborating with domestic companies like Karbonn. Beginning this weekend, on July 7, the company aims to launch beta testing on 1 million Bharat Jio phones across 6,500 tehsils (talukas) in India.

The Jio Bharat phone will include two prepaid plans. The first is the Rs 123 plan, which offers 14GB of data and 28 days of unlimited phone calling. The second one is the Rs 1234 plan, which offers 168GB of data and a 365-day yearly validity. The daily data cap for each of the plans is 0.5GB.

With an active plan, Jio Bharat Phone users will be able to place unlimited phone calls. Users will also be able to utilise JioPay to make UPI payments in addition to that. A camera is also present. It is offered in the colours Red and Blue. Users will have access to an FM Radio app, JioCinema, and JioSaavn for amusement.
