RailTel partners with Cisco for video conferencing service

NEW DELHI: RailTel Corporation of India, the telecom arm of Indian Railways, has joined hands with ICT solutions provider Cisco to provide video conferencing service in government departments.

“RailTel’s Tele-Presence solution is a small step towards enabling a virtual world and it also complements the current corporate’s  and government’s goals of ‘going green’ and supporting sustainability,” said RK Bahuguna, CMD, RailTel.

He also stated that the use of telepresence will reduce travel costs, alleviate scheduling conflicts, increase productivity and promote a more cohesive work force across the many times zones of our new global economy.

The RailTel’s Telepresence as a Service was introduced by A Seshagiri Rao, Director (Network, planning & Marketing), RailTel.

“The USP of RailTel TPaaS is its Opex model service where the customer will able to enjoy an immersive full HD video conferencing experience without bothering about the long procurement process for equipment and network, high initial cost, quality of network connectivity, availability of IT support among others,”Rao added.

The service will be available on customer’s premises by RailTel with installation of required camera, codec and network connectivity. The central infrastructure including multi-point bridge, streaming, recording facility and 24x7 help desk facility will be maintained at its Tier-III Data Centre at Hyderabad, a statement said.

High availability of central infrastructure is ensured with DR site working in active load balancing mode at Gurgaon.

 Puneet Gupta ,Managing Director, Enterprise and Public Sector Sales, Cisco India and  SAARC, stressed on the fact that Digital India program of the government is one of the most important initiative for the growth of the country and this Telepresence service will  play a stellar role in further strengthening the program.
