Nokia said Latvian telecom operator LMT has chosen its 5G Standalone Core for deployment in the nation, which would enable new services including network slicing and network asset monetization. The Nokia 5G SA Core will provide LMT with the speed, intelligence, scale, and security it needs, to deliver 5G services while also cost-effectively managing the telco’s network with near-zero-touch automation and strict adherence to Service Level Agreements.

LMT will also be able to offer low-latency apps for its enterprise customers, as well as develop new network capabilities such as network APIs and analytics, thanks to the 5G SA Core. The Nokia 7220 Interconnect Router for data centre fabric will also be included in the implementation.

“The deal widens Nokia’s footprint in LMT, which already makes use of Nokia Cloud Packet Core, Subscriber Knowledge Administration, and software program options for 5G signaling and cloud administration,” Nokia stated in a press release.

“Deploying 5G Standalone Core I critical for LMT to better monetize network assets and increase our network agility and dependability,” said Gunars Danbergs, VP Technology at LMT.

The new product, according to the telecom gear producer, can help telecom companies simplify network operations and lower network management costs.  “We are pleased to strengthen our strong cooperation with LMT by providing it with Nokia’s market-leading Core-Network technology to allow the deployment of sophisticated 5G services,” mentioned Fran Heeran, SVP and Head of Nokia’s Core Networks, Cloud and Network Services.

Nokia claims to be the market leader in the 5G SA Core market, with more than 60 telco clients worldwide including roughly 30 in Europe. Nokia Core network solutions are also used by 25 of the top 40 communication service providers in the world by revenue, according to the statement.
