GSMA announces details for Mobile World Congress Shanghai

NEW DELHI:  London-based global mobile operators’lobby group, GSM Association (GSMA) has provided further details for the 2016 GSMA Mobile World Congress Shanghai, which will be held 29 June – 1 July 2016 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The GSMA announced additional exhibitors, sponsors, partners and programmes for the annual Shanghai event.

“Mobile World Congress Shanghai will spotlight innovation not only across the Asia mobile market but also internationally,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA.

“Our 2016 event features the world’s leading mobile players and brands throughout the exhibition and our conference, and introduces new elements such as 4 Years From Now and partner programmes that will also offer a global perspective on this rapidly expanding industry. We look forward to seeing the mobile world gather in Shanghai in June,” said O’Hara.

The GSMA announced additional companies that will be participating in the Mobile World Congress Shanghai exhibition, highlighting the latest mobile products and services. New exhibitors include Accenture, CCTIC, FashionTV, Ford, Lenovo, LG Electronics, McAfee, Monster, NEC, Tata Communications, Tencent and Twitter, as well as the Greece Pavilion.

Now in its fourth year at Mobile World Congress Shanghai, the GSMA Innovation City will again be a major highlight of the show, enabling attendees to experience technology in context and see how mobile-connected products and services can improve their daily lives in industrial applications as well as home, automotive, health, agriculture and others. Partners in the Innovation City include Akyumen, DTS, Huawei, Intel, KT Corporation, NAES and Thinfilm.

4YFN Expands to Asia

Building on its success in Barcelona, 4 Years From Now (4YFN) is coming to Mobile World Congress Shanghai. An international programme presented by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and the GSMA, 4YFN brings together mobile start-ups and entrepreneurs with investors, accelerators, incubators and corporations from the mobile ecosystem. Covering 3,000 square metres, the 4YFN exhibition includes several pavilions including Daegu Korea Pavilion, the European Young Innovators Forum, Hong Kong Cyberport, Hong Kong Science Park, Jordanian Pavilion, KAIT Korea Pavilion and the Shenzhen Pavilion. Through the exhibition as well as conferences, workshops and interactive discussions, 4YFN at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2016 will focus on three key themes – “From Innovation to Business”, “Disrupted by Mobile”, and “Digital Media” – highlighting key mobile trends, exploring disruptive innovation and helping attendees capitalise on business opportunities. Virtual Reality at Mobile World Congress Shanghai

Mobile World Congress Shanghai attendees will have the opportunity to experience virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) firsthand. The exhibition will include the Virtual Reality Zone where leading VR/AR companies from across the world will showcase cutting-edge technologies and products, and consumers and VR fans can immerse themselves in a range of 360-degree interactive experiences. Alongside the Virtual Reality Zone, the Virtual Reality Summit will bring together futurists, innovators and leaders to discuss how VR can advance in areas such as gaming, films, retail and others, while outlining future opportunities for the technology. Additional GSMA and Partner Programmes

The GSMA announced the addition of new GSMA and Partner Programmes being held at Mobile World Congress Shanghai. The Digital Transformation Forum, co-organised by the GSMA and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), will be held on Wednesday, 29 June and will bring together mobile operators and ecosystem players from China and around the world to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the mobile industry in the transition to the digital world. In Partner Programmes, China eHealth Corp. (CHC) will present the Digital Health Summit on Wednesday, 29 June and and Thursday, 30 June. Over the two-day programme, attendees will explore a range of issues in the context of China’s health reform, with an emphasis on the impact of mobile and Internet technologies, climate change and shaping cities for health. Ericsson has confirmed that it will host a partner meeting for mobile operators, enterprises and regulators on Thursday, 30 June, focusing on the evolution to 5G, the Internet of Things and cloud technologies.
