The first telecom provider to set up a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in Ladakh's Siachen Glacier is Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). In a post on X (predecessor to Twitter), the state-run telco announced the accomplishment.

The installation of Siachen's first mobile tower ever, an apparently unimportant occurrence in our chaotic environment. However, for our Jawans, who daily risk their lives to defend us on the highest battleground in the world, it means being inextricably linked to their families now. This BTS holds the same significance for them as the Vikram Lander.

The BSNL post on X read, "We're proud to announce the first-ever BTS on the world's highest battlefield, Siachen Glacier, extending vital mobile communication for our brave soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet."

The action will make mobile communications possible for the army troops deployed in the area. The BTS was introduced by BSNL on October 6, 2023. Siachen Glacier is the highest altitude battle ground worldwide and the troops who are commissioned there will experience a significant change in their quality of life due to connectivity.

Additionally, one can see that a radio is in place and that the towers have been installed in the images given by BSNL. A radio transceiver called a BTS really links a phone to a mobile network. A piece of technology called a base transceiver station (BTS) makes it possible for user equipment (UE) and a network to communicate wirelessly. Mobile phones (handsets), WLL phones, laptops with wireless Internet connectivity, and antennas installed on structures or telecommunications towers are examples of UEs.

As of this Diwali, BSNL will begin a large-scale deployment of 4G, which it has already begun deploying. In order to provide services in underserved areas, the state-run telco. Due to the low rate of return, private telcos are unable to invest in all rural areas. However, BSNL has already stated that it will provide 4G in rural and village areas of the nation without high-speed broadband connection.

Earlier this month In Himachal Pradesh, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) announced that it is all set to improve connectivity as part of the 4G Saturation project, which is financed by the Indian government. The Chief General Manager of BSNL, Himachal Pradesh, was mentioned as saying that BSNL is building 625 new 4G towers as part of the 4G saturation initiative to improve connectivity in the area.

BSNL is in charge of ensuring connectivity in every remote location as part of the government’s 4G saturation plan. The Union Cabinet approved a project in 2022 to provide 4G mobile connections to all of the country’s disconnected villages.
