Former TRAI Chief Rahul Khullar Passes Away

Dr. Khullar was an eminent personality within the telecom sector, being awarded V&D Telecom's POTY in 2015. His passing is mourned by the whole industry.

On Tuesday, the ex-TRAI chief and and 1975 batch IAS officer Rahul Khullar sadly passed away due to a prolonged illness. Dr. Khullar was chosen as the V&D Telecom Person of the Year in 2015 for his work at the apex position at TRAI.

Life of Rahul Khullar

Rahul Khullar was an exemplary person throughout his illustrious career. Acing his batch in 1974 in MA Economics, Dr. Khullar joined the IAS the next year. He obtained a PhD in Economics from Boston University and was there as a professor in the university's Development Economics Department.

After he retired from the apex telecom regulatory authority, he took up to teaching at a school in Delhi. He is survived by his wife, Sindhushree Khullar (IAS, 1975), ex CEO NITI Aayog and two daughters Sonal & Mrinal.

Condolences poured in from the industry at the sudden demise of the much revered personality. NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar on Twitter. "Just heard very sad news of Rahul Khullar's passing away. Known him since 1969 when we were together in St Stephen's, then in MoF & again in ADB. One of the sharpest minds with impeccable integrity. Deepest condolences to Sindhushree. May his noble soul rest in eternal peace".

NK Singh, 15th Finance Commission said on Twitter, "Deeply shocked and saddened by the passing away of Rahul Khullar. Was a close endearing friend. Had a sophisticated understanding of complex economic issues. A man of amazing rectitude. May his soul rest in peace".
