Rajat Mukarji, Director General, Broadband India Forum (BIF) passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 due to a sudden heart attack.

A visionary leader and a beloved figure in the field of telecommunications, Rajat also served a former Vodafone Idea corporate affairs officer. Mukarji was 70 years old and is now survived by his wife and daughter.

Rajat Mukarji formative years cultivating a passion for technology and innovation. With an insatiable curiosity and a brilliant mind, Rajat pursued his education from Delhi University's St. Stephen's College laying the foundation for a remarkable career ahead.

Rajat's journey in the telecommunications industry began with working as a general manager at Birla AT&T from 1996 to 2002, Mukarji then joined UK-Based Vodafone, now Vodafone Idea (Vi) in 2002.

During his almost 17-year association with Vodafone Idea, Mukarji not only represented the telco at many national and international platforms but also took precedence in several strategic decisions.

After ending his association with Vodafone Idea he also for a short span of time served Chinese telecom gear maker ZTE as a corporate affairs officer from July 2019 to February 2020. Post which he joined Broadband India Forum( BIF) as Director General in 2020.

BIF is an organization dedicated to fostering the growth and development of the telecommunications sector in India. BIF was established in 2015 as a think-tank and policy advocacy organization, with the aim of promoting the deployment of broadband networks across the country. Through his unparalleled expertise and visionary leadership, Rajat quickly rose through the ranks, eventually assuming the role of Director General of BIF.

BIF represents companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Amazon, Cisco, Google, Ericsson, Intel, and Inmarsat. During his tenure as Director General, Rajat spearheaded numerous initiatives that propelled the telecommunications industry forward. His visionary approach to policymaking, advocacy for digital connectivity, and commitment to bridging the digital divide played a pivotal role in transforming India's telecommunications landscape.
