Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, today announced the opening of a third Availability Zone in the AWS Asia Pacific (Singapore) Region to support the rapid growth of the AWS customer base in Asia Pacific. The new Availability Zone will allow customers already using AWS with more choice, flexibility, and even higher reliability.

Availability Zones refer to technology infrastructure in separate and distinct geographic locations with enough distance to significantly reduce the risk of a single event impacting availability, yet near enough for business continuity applications that require rapid failover. Each Availability Zone has independent power, cooling, and physical security, and is connected to national backbone networks via high-speed fiber optic networks. AWS customers focused on high availability can design their applications to run in multiple Availability Zones to achieve even higher fault-tolerance. AWS also provides Amazon CloudFront services at edge locations in Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Singapore for customers looking to deliver websites, applications, and content to end users with lower latency.

“Responding to demand from local customers and Amazon Partner Network (APN) Partners, AWS is increasing its commitment to the fast-growing Southeast Asia region by opening a third Availability Zone, so AWS customers have another local option where they can run mission-critical workloads and store data,” said Nick Walton, Managing Director, ASEAN, Amazon Web Services. “For many years, an enthusiastic base of customers across Southeast Asia have chosen to build their businesses on AWS because it offers more functionality than other cloud platforms, including a wide array of database, Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning technologies, as well as an extensive APN Partner and customer ecosystem, and unmatched maturity, security, and performance.”

Customers ranging from start-up businesses to international corporations and public sector organizations are using the AWS Singapore Region to build and run their business in the AWS Cloud. Some examples include Air Asia, Astro Holdings Malaysia Berhad, Ayala Land, Banyan Tree, Bureau of Customs of the Philippines, Carro Singapore, DBS Bank, DoHome, Grab, Genome Institute of Singapore, Globe Telecom, Government Technology of Singapore (GOVTECH), iflix, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Land Transport Authority of Singapore, Maybank, PropertyGuru, ServisHero, Singapore

Singapore Airlines is the flag carrier airline for Singapore, and is recognized as the world’s most awarded airline. "We at Singapore Airlines have been progressively enhancing our digital capabilities with significant investments to support our digital transformation. Our data analytics platform and award-winning mobile app are already hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and we will soon be moving our website to it in line with our cloud first strategy. We are therefore very pleased that AWS is boosting its commitment to this region with the 3rd availability zone, which will boost its resilience and help support growth of our digital platforms," said George Wang, Senior Vice President Information Technology, Singapore Airlines.

APN Partners across Asia Pacific also welcomed the expansion of the AWS Asia Pacific (Singapore) Region. The APN includes tens of thousands of independent software vendors (ISVs) and systems integrators (SIs) around the world, with APN Partner participation in Asia growing significantly during the past 12 months. APN Partners build innovative solutions and services on the AWS Cloud. The APN network provides partners with business, technical, marketing, and go-to-market (GTM) support. “We are excited about the launch of the third AWS Availability Zone in the AWS Singapore Region,” said Varoon D. Rajani, CEO of BlazeClan Technologies, an award-winning APN Partner. “This will allow customers in Singapore and across South East Asia to leverage additional capacity and flexibility to build scalable and highly available applications.”
