Chinese Telecom major ZTE is aiming to address $600 million market for next
generation networks in India. The company is in talks with BSNL, VSNL, MTNL and
Airtel for providing next generation network platform.
Addressing the media, Wang Xiang, general product manager, Wired Network
Product, ZTE, said that there is over 60 million fixed subscribers in India,
which translates to around $600 million worth market size."Some of the
operators in India are in transition to upgrade their networks. We are trial
testing for some operators. We have changed the VSNL platform to next generation
networks. Others are in the process," he said.
The company is also bidding for Reliance tender for next generation
networks.ZTE has over 500 next generation network implementation in over 40
countries and currently looking at India, Brazil and Russia for market
expansion. "As a trial, we are implementing our next generation network
products for one million fixed lines in India," said Xiang.
For ZTE, NGN (next generation network) group contributes over 20 per cent of
revenues. "We have filed over 900 patents from this division and growing at
30 per cent annually," added Xiang.
ZTE offers two families of products to address this market. "We have two
families of products. First is access networks and the second is the call
network. In the access network we have MSG series products and in the call
networks we have SS1B series. We are not manufacturing our next generation
networks in India R&D center But our India R&D work son service
networking space," he said.
The company competes with Alcatel-Lucent and Huwaei in the next generation
network equipment space.
