An Anite-led task group within the METIS project, which is a group of 29 key wireless industry players and claims to be the first international and large-scale research activity doing on 5G, has led to the development of the first channel models for 5G.

The rising mobile data consumption and the advanced capabilities of wireless devices have pushed the need for 5G, which has very difficult technical requirements.

5G will utilize all dimensions of the radio channel such as delay, frequency, time, location, elevation and polarization.

METIS is basically working for developing the 5G and one of its objectives is to provide a system concept for higher mobile data volume per area.

Accurate radio channel model development will help in higher data transmission volumes, which is why radio channel model plays a key role in the development of 5G.

A part of the METIS Deliverable D1.2, the 5G channel models are available for 5G technology developers worldwide.

The channel models were presented at the Booklyn 5G Summit in New York.

“As the only test vendor involved with the METIS project, Anite’s channel model expertise and testing capability is enabling the industry to progress the development of future mobile technologies such as 5G,” says Paul Beaver, products director at Anite.

“The interim 5G channel models defined under Anite’s leadership have wide industry acceptance and will help to meet the requirements of higher data volume and develop a system concept for 5G.” says Olav Queseth, senior researcher at Ericsson and project coordinator at METIS.
