Voice & Data Felicitates ICT Stalwarts

The stalwarts of the telecom and IT industry all gathered under one roof on 12th of October in New Delhi to mark the CyberMedia ICT Awards. The function represented the convergence of IT and telecom industry for the first time when the awards were co-hosted by Dataquest and VOICE&DATA, two flagship products from the CyberMedia Group.

The award honored the top companies for demonstrating excellence and achievement in the Indian information and communication industry based on the annual survey of V&D 100, DQ Top20 as well as by a jury of eminent dignitaries.


Eminent Jury


The jury members of the DQ Top20 Awards included N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS; Sunil Dutt, MD, RIM India; Sandeep Mathur, MD, Oracle India; Debjani Ghosh, MD, Intel South Asia; Pradeep Gupta, CMD, CyberMedia; Prasanto Roy, editorial advisor, CyberMedia; Manish Choksi, chief of corporate strategy & CIO, Asian Paints; and, Amar Babu, MD, Lenovo India.

The CyberMedia ICT Business Awards also had R Chandrashekhar, secretary, department of telecom and J Satyanarayana, secretary, department of IT as the guests of honor.


Recognizing the Best


The V&D 100 awards and DQ Top20 awards were based on the basis on extensive analysis and annual survey in the Indian telecom industry and IT industry in the equipment vendor and the service provider sections for business performance in FY12.

The ICT awards which has not only been successful in recording the best of the ICT contributions but also has been perpetually recognizing the individuals (and their companies) for their extraordinary contributions to the industry. This year 2 special awards and a total of 39 recognitions under different categories were announced.


Inspiring millions of engineers and programmers to aspire for leadership and steering the large global Indian IT company impressively through uncertain conditions, and for inspiring unmatched confidence among all stakeholders, Dataquest facilitated the Dataquest IT Person of the Year Award for 2011 to Francisco D' Souza, CEO, Cognizant.


Having taken TCS to new heights, and adorning an additional responsibility as advisor to the prime minister in the National Skill Development Council, in the rank of a cabinet minister with much elan, the Dataquest Lifetime Achievement award winner for this year went to Subramanian Ramadorai, vice chairman, TCS.

The Top Telecom Service Provider and the top operators award went to Bharti airtel. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, airtel India and South Asia received the award. Bharti airtel is the world's third largest telecom company in terms of user base, with presence in 20 countries, the company that makes every Indian proud. Bharti airtel is the only company to have launched LTE services in India.


BSNL bagged the top broadband, NLD, and fixed services operators of the country. The award was received by RK Upadhyaya, CMD, BSNL.


The top mobile handsets and top equipment company went to Nokia. Nokia emerged as the #1 company in mobile handset business despite ups and downs.

Cisco bagged the top Networking Company. With a new identity as the next Cisco-less complex, more agile the company garnered revenue of more than `7,000 crore in FY11-12. Besides others, in the recently launched cable TV digitization process, the company achieved a 100% growth in the period.
