Tyco Electronics has introduced AMP NetconnectXG fiber system. The new fiber system has been termed as a "one-fiber-fits-all" solution by the company. It provides customers with a migration path from 10 Mbps up to 10 Gbps utilizing the same multimode optical fiber cabling. Comprised of a complete line of AMP/Pirelli XG fiber cables and AMP NetconnectXG connectors and cable assemblies, the new 10Gbps standards-based XG fiber system provides protection from re-cabling network infrastructures to support bandwidth upgrades. This fiber system supports 10 Gbps applications running over 300-meter distance of structured cabling. This new optical fiber cable has been "laser-optimized" at 850nm so that 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit fiber channel applications can be fully supported.
"The new optical fiber cable provided with the AMP NetconnectXG Fiber System delivers a laser bandwidth of 2,000 MHz at 850 nanometers," explains Sitaramaiah, Senior Manager-System Engineering, NetconnectSolutions Division. This not only complies with the optical fiber performance requirements of the newest 10 Gbps laser-based standards, but also supports legacy systems using light-emitting diodes or LEDs.
