The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has asked a newly formed panel of
auditors to check and certify the metering and billing systems of service
providers. In accordance with the provisions of its Quality of Service
Regulation 2006, which directs telecom service providers to arrange for an audit
of their metering and billing system on an annual basis through one of the
auditors notified by TRAI. The regulator has empanelled RITES Ltd, S R
Batliboi & Associates, M.M. Nissim and Company, TUV South Asia Pvt Ltd, Anil
Ashok & Associates and Sanjay Gupta & Associates in its list of
auditors. The auditors are required to submit an audit report to TRAI by June 30
every year. As per the Regulation service providers, have to take necessary
action on any inadequacies pointed out in the audit certificate and to file with
TRAI an action taken report before September 30 of every financial year.
