TRAI orders Vodafone to follow MNP rules

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) has directed Vodafone, not to reject mobile number porting requests of the customers on the basis of contractual obligation of the subscribers and to comply with the provisions of Mobile Number Portability.

The regulatory authority has even informed the company to provide the compliance report within a period of seven days after the issue of this direction.

The regulator received many complaints from the company's subscribers regarding the rejection of there requests to port their number out of the operator.

Vodafone informed TRAI that the rejections were primarily due to violation of contract by the subscribers, however the customers complained that they never went into any such agreement with the operator.

The company allowed the subscribers to port out there number when informed by the regulator about such customers.

Mobile Number Portability was launched on January 2011 in the country, enabling mobile phone users to switch to any network operator of there choice retaining there same number.

The regulator even noticed that the percentage of rejections of the porting requests of subscribers is quite high.
