In order to reduce billing complaints and protect the interest of consumers, TRAI has amended the Quality of Service (Code of Practice for Metering and Billing Accuracy) Regulations, 2006.
As per the Quality of Service (Code of Practice for Metering and Billing Accuracy) (Amendment) Regulations, 2013; Service providers will have to bear a penalty of Rs 1,00,000 per week if they procastinate the submission of audit reports and action taken reports to the TRAI.
Service providers will be levied a penalty of nearly Rs 10,00,000 for false or incomplete information in the Action Taken Report.
Service Providers ought to submit audit report and action taken report every year by 31st July and 15th November respectively. TRAI has mandated service providers to refund the overcharged amounts within two months. In case of violation, service providers are liable for financial disincentive.
