Chipmaker Texas Instruments (TI) readying to launch a single-chip solution for cellular phones. The company hopes that this technology would result in producing low cost handsets, enriching phones with more features and achieving better market penetration, said Rich Templeton, TI's CEO while inaugurating TI's new campus in Bangalore which will house 1,100 employees. He also said that the company will invest $2.1 billion this year globally.
Templeton said that globally, the company was pumping in an investment of $2.1 billion this year on advanced semi conductor products, process manufacture and technology. Speaking on market trends, he said that communications and entertainment systems were moving on to semi-conductor chips.
TI had earlier showcased the single chip mobile solution at the 3GSM World Congress at Cannes this February. The company claims that this innovation would incorporate features like digital radio frequency and better power management, which would also bring down costs.
