1.What are the key offerings of Telit Wireless Solutions?
Telit is an M2M supplier to offer all relevant technologies for M2M markets in its product portfolio with Cellular, Short Range, and cutting-edge GPS receivers, including the world's smallest and most sensitive GPS receiver module.
Telit offers to its customers a 'unified' form factor and family concept. The product families are tailored to different levels of integration and volumes according to application size and production scale. All modules of one family have a common footprint and software interface so that they can be easily integrated and switched between different technologies into existing customer designs with only minimal adaptation. As a result, customers benefit from modules that can be used for years in their applications. They avoid additional development outlay and thus protect their previous development investments.
2.How do you think M2M is going to change our lives in the near future?
Once adopters have the cellular generation discussion settled as explained above, there are other solution enrichment opportunities for M2M which we believe will bring substantial growth for the industry in the coming years. It is hard to forecast the potential growth - also if you compare the forecast numbers from different analyst houses you see huge divergences. The only thing that seems to be sure: the potential is there and very promising. The estimations given by the industry analysts are huge and all the industry stakeholders are betting big on the numbers.
3.What are the key challenges in driving M2M growth?
We see much energy being spent by integrators to understand this. Generation transition should definitely not take center stage for product evolution plans for M2M adopters. This is understandably a concern particularly in the US but Telit's family concept protects adopters from such things.
We believe M2M adopters should really at this point be taking more time to understand other dimensions related to M2M integration. One is the rising play that short range wireless will continue to have as markets demand more things connected and less wires to connect them with. So for those adopters that have not yet started to look at short range, this is probably a great time to start. Similarly, it is time to develop a more thorough understanding of location awareness for devices. We are at a crossroads where positioning and GPS are no longer synonyms.
4.What's the overall M2M market size and how do you foresee the future?
Presently, the overall M2M market size for cellular modules alone is about a million units per annum. However, the Indian M2M market has been growing consistently over the past few years and it is expected to grow exponentially in the next 3-5 years. The motivator of this solid growth are government initiatives like the R-APDRP program to implement reforms in the energy sector for more cost effective and efficient energy transmission and distribution.
