The Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA) informed VOICE&DATA about the formation of the India Broadband Forum under its auspices. NK Goyal, president, TEMA shared this information on the sidelines of a TEMA meet, held in Bangalore on 16 July 2004.
The forum's primary role will be to provide technical, strategic, and marketing support to its member organizations venturing in the development of broadband products and services. Goyal said, "Broadband will soon take the center stage in India, and the rewards for those who can harness this platform will be huge."
The initiative may be seen in the backdrop of the dwindling fortunes of telecom manufacturing in the country, particularly pertaining to C-DOT equipment. TEMA has been doing some brainstorming for the past few months to figure out newer and sustainable manufacturing streams for its member organizations.
