Telecom subscribers reach 899.78 mn:TRAI

TRAI has released the telecom subscription data as on 31st August 2011, according to which the total number of subscribers have reached a whopping 899.78 mn, with wireless subscribers contributing 865.71 mn.

The wireless segment.added 7.34 mn new subscribers in the month,however wireline subscriber base declined from 34.18 mn in july to 34.07 mn at the end of August.

Idea enrolled the highest number of subscribers with 31.75% share followed by Reliance which took 17.44% share of the total subscribers.

The overall teledensity in urban and rural areas stood at 164.87 and 36.19 respectively.

According to the regulator the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests increased from 155.48 lakh at the end of july ,to 180.59 lakh subscribers at the end of August 2011.The broadband subscription reached 12.69 mn at the end of the month.

''The overall teledensity in India has reached 72.12'' says the regulator.
