Telcordia may move court to retain MNP licence

Telcordia Technologies has announced that it may consider legal action to protect its mobile number portability (MNP) ambitions in India if the telecom department revokes the licence given to its subsidiary to provide that service. The US telco had planned to offer the services through its joint venture MNP Interconnection, a company in which it holds 74% of the shares. Delhi-based Deepak Talwar Consultants holds the balance 26% in the JV.

The telecom department had served MNP Interconnection a show-cause notice, asking it why its licence should not be cancelled, after the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) rejected its proposal citing security concerns.MNP Interconnection is one of the two companies which got approvals to implement mobile number portability in India. The other licencee is Syniverse Technologies.
