A purchase order (PO) for Rs 7,492 crore has been issued to Tejas Networks Limited, a member of the Tata Group, by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), for the provision of RAN (radio access network) equipment for the implementation of 4G and 5G at 100,000 sites.

A PO from TCS was received on August 15, 2023, the company has informed the stock exchanges. TCS will serve as a systems integrator, and Tejas Networks will entirely manufacture the hardware for BSNL's in-house 4G/5G deployment.

Tejas Networks specified that the PO must be carried out between the years 2023 and 2024 in the order's specifics. In the next 18 to 24 months, TCS can use the equipment to deploy it for BSNL in 1 lakh sites. For nine years beyond the end of the equipment's warranty, support and maintenance services will be provided.

This marks as a significant development. Both the government and the BSNL management have reaffirmed their commitment to launching domestic 4G as soon as possible. This order confirms that BSNL would launch 4G within the next two months. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telecom minister, had earlier stated that BSNL would begin deploying 4G at 300 sites everyday after September.

The Punjab beta launch for the government-run telecom provider has already taken place. Around 200 live test sites are being used by BSNL and TCS to gather input. With a software push, BSNL's in-house technology can be updated from 4G to 5G. This will aid BSNL in hastening the rollout of 5G.

By October or November 2023, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will stop losing subscribers, according to telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The company would be able to give the private telecom carriers in the coming year fierce competition, the minister said in addition to announcing the third relief package for BSNL of 89,047cr earlier this year. Once the rollout of 4G and 5G takes place, the company will stop losing its subscribers, he claimed.
