Tata Docomo Photon users in Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata will now be able to access a data speed of up to 9.8Mbps on the Photon Max Wi-Fi data card.
The company has used Rev B Phase II technology to provide speed of up to 9.8Mbps from the present 6.2Mbps. The current users will automatically be able to access the higher speeds on their network as the upgradation is compatible with the existing Photon Max Wi-Fi devices.
Gradually, the speed will be extended for eight other metro cities.
The Wi-Fi feature allows consumers to create their personal Wi-Fi zones and connects up to five devices simultaneously.
One added advantage is that there will be no roaming charges nationally on the use of this product, making it easy for travelers.
Both post-pay and pre-pay customers can access higher speed, irrespective of their billing plans.
Gurinder Singh Sandhu, head, marketing, mobility, Tata Teleservices, said: “With the demand for high speed data connectivity rapidly rising, this network augmentation will further enable our customers to enjoy high speed data connectivity and enjoy seamless rich multimedia.
With this development, Tata Docomo will become one of the leading players to offer Rev.B Phase II network in India. Photon Max Wi-Fi is already redefining the way customers access Internet data across multiple devices at home and offices and this will further enhance their data experience.”
Powered by Qualcomm Gobi with dual processor Technology, Photon Max Wi-Fi helps customers to create their own Wi-Fi Zone anytime, anywhere and access the internet through any device--laptop, desktop, tablet or phone.
The network serves up to five devices simultaneously.
Sixty per cent of data users consume video content, followed by music 30% and games 25%. Videos, music and games are the top three content categories followed by imagery and apps. Recent trends have exhibited growing affinity towards using Mobile TV.
Data is the next frontier of growth for telecom operators that will help in mitigating slowing voice revenues.
About 30% of the company’s revenue comes from data and that is likely to grow up in the future.
India is now the world's third largest internet user after US and China with more than 165 mn internet users and it is estimated that by 2015 India will cross the 330 mn mark.
Proliferation of internet, affordable smartphones, notebooks, tablets and introduction of Wi-Fi enabled devices will fuel this growth and provide a great fillip to the data market in India.
