Goa government is planning to provide tablets, notebooks free of cost to school students in the state, according to the additional director of education Anil Powar.
"The government is planning to procure nearly 50,000 notebooks and tablet PCs for distribution to the students after the summer vacation in this year," said Powar.
The only price the students need to pay is Rs 25 for general students and Rs 10 for SC and ST students in terms of registration fees. " We will provide netbooks and tablets for students of V and VI and laptops for class X! students," said Powar speaking to Voice&Data.

With a project cost of Rs 50 crore, the Goa government aims to promote overall growth of the state's economy through the use of Information Technology.
"The project is totally state funded project and there is no role of central government," said Powar.
Info Tech Corporation of Goa Limited (ITG) is selected for distribute the product. The goverment will float a tender in this regard in the next couple of weeks and the distribution of these devices would take place in this financial year.
Government has already arranged Rs.95 crore for the purchase of the computers in the budget 2011-12 presented by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
