Sunil Dutt quits Blackberry India

Sunil Dutt, managing director of Blackberry India has resigned from the company. The deteriorating performance of the company, across markets, has been a worry for this smartphone maker for quite some time.

According to the Voice & Data survey, RIM's revenues dropped 25 percent to Rs 1,460 crore from Rs 1,950 crore between 2011-12 as compared to 2011.

Rick Costanzo will take over the leadership of the India management team at the smartphone maker and he will start the search for a new sales lead as soon as possible. Presently, Costanzo is an executive vice president for global sales.

"Sunil Dutt has left his position as managing director, BlackBerry India with immediate effect," said company in a statement.

"India is an extremely important market for BlackBerry and our aim is to continue to build on our recent momentum with the launch of BlackBerry 10," according to the statement.

 

Sunil Dutt has joined as managing director for India on December 6, 2011. Prior to joining BlackBerry , he worked for Hewlett Packard India Sales. Previously as president, personal systems group and was responsible for expanding their business in enterprise, mid-market and consumer space.

Earlier, he was heading the mobile handsets operations for Samsung in India. In the past, he had also worked with Nokia, Barista Coffee Company, Whirlpool, Wipro and Philips.
