Delhi-based Sting Broadband Consortia, a broadband- and Internet-focused company, demonstrated the 4G/WiMax broadband wireless metropolitan IP network system. Sting has collaborated with the US-based Kaon Systems to launch WiMax technology in India. The technology uses patented SDR (software defined radio) and OFDMA-TDD (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access-time division duplex) radio technology to deliver the broadband wireless experience.
Kaon's WiMax solution uses a compact base station. The system extends outdoor coverage to non-line of sight locations within buildings. The user terminal features automated plug and play capability, requiring no manual service functioning. The live demonstration supports individual user data rates up to 2.5 Mbps, along with embedded QoS capability.
The system is suitable for a variety of applications and services including: VoIP, IP video, ASP hosted e-services, e-medicine, e-training, and e-commerce.
Rabindra S Grewal, chairman, Sting Broadband informed, "At present we are evaluating different service providers and BSNL is testing the solution. We are also talking to ISPs to strategically partner with them in deploying this technology in various parts of the country."
