Technopark based Softex Computer Consultants (P) Ltd has entered into a long-term agreement with Siemens Pte Ltd Information and Communication Mobile, Germany to globally market the Softex products developed for GPRS, 3G cell phones and other mobile devices. The 3G cell phones are powerful enough to act as a computing platform in addition to being a cell phone. This is the latest step in the migration of computing from Mainframe to Desktop to Laptop to Palmtop, and now, to the cell phone. As cell phones are carried around by users everywhere, the "anytime, anywhere availability of information" concept becomes a reality.
R P Lalaji, CMD, Softex Group, said, "The software products made by Softex for Siemens include applications for healthcare and business professionals on the go, innovative mobile games, m-Learning applications and a mobile instant messaging application." "Software development for the cell phone or PDA platform is very different from the usual software development due to memory constraints that demand mean and lean code. A small-sized display makes UI design and development all the more difficult," he added. When Siemens (Asia Pacific) launched its sl45i cell phone last December, it bundled six games developed by Softex along with it. Several exciting applications have been developed since and Siemens is readying for the release of the same after pre-release testing, claimed Lalaji.
Softex expects its revenues to shoot up with their foray into new technologies. The Softex group based in Technopark has diversified activities including medical transcription, call center, training and . The company’s has wide ranging technical expertise, which includes wireless applications, Internet, intranet and client server systems for the domains of healthcare, IT enabled services, business and entertainment. Jippii of Finland, PIXO of USA, 4th Pass(recently acquired by Motorola), ANFY of Italy are some Softex clients for its mobile devices products.
