The consumption of semiconductor were mostly by smartphones, media tablets and e-readers,automotive infotainment, notebook PCs, due to the uncertainties across the world.

Tracking over 100 semiconductor companies by IDC's SAF, it was estimated that over 40 companies had a revenue growth of over 5% while equal companies showed a decline of 5% in revenues. The top 5 chip suppliers were Texas Instruments, Toshiba, and Renesas Electronics. The top 25 vendors captured 72% of overall semiconductor revenues for the year. For examples, Intel had a revenue of $51.8 billion, Samsung had it for $29 billion and Apple of 140% year over year in the semiconductor industry.

Within the semiconductor device types, microprocessors registered strong growth due to high demand and increased ASPs for Intel's chips. Both Asia/Pacific and Americas showed growth above the industry average, while Japan and Europe showed negative growth.
