RJIo rolls out free Wi-Fi hotspots in Gujarat

Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIo) has started to roll out mobile network and Wi-Fi hotspot services in in 8 locations at Ahmedabad and 9 locations at Baroda and Surat regions of Gujarat on a pilot basis, according to the report.

"The company estimates that around 55,000 devices are utilising using Reliance Jio's hotspot services, which are currently being offered for a limited period of 72 hours. It also allows users to reactivate their service after expiration for extended use," as per the report.

The operator expects to launch its 4G offering during 2014. In February, RJI aquired spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band for the provision of 4G services in fourteen circles across the country.

The RJIo isn't the first with plans to offer 4G services in India. Airtel is already in the fray and has deployed its LTE network in Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Ludhiana.

Recently, the company won spectrum in 1800 Mhz, widely known as 2G spectrum, for Rs 11,054 crore in 14 service area. This spectrum can now be used for 4G services.
