Reliance Globalcom in talks with Batelco Group: R Com

Reliance Communications' enterprise division Reliance Globalcom is in talks with Bahrain Telecommunications to buy a stake in Globalcom operations.

Reliance Communications is India's number 4 operator (according to Voice&Data) with revenues of Rs 20,382 crores in FY 2011-12.

Reliance Communications has informed the stock exchange that "We note recent reports in the press and confirm that we are in discussions with Batelco Group with respect to Reliance Globalcom, our global communications services business unit. At this point, there can be no certainty that this will lead to a transaction. A further announcement will be made in due course if appropriate."

Reliance Globalcom, a division of Reliance Communications spearheads the global telecom operations. Reliance Globalcom brings together the synergies of Reliance Communications global business encompassing enterprise services, capacity sales, managed services and a highly successful bouquet of retail products and services comprising of global voice, internet solutions and value added services.

The company serves over 2,100 enterprises, 200 carriers and 2.5 million retail customers in 163 countries across 6 continents.

The Batelco Group is listed on the Bahrain Bourse and operates across six markets in the Middle East and North Africa. The Group serves consumer, corporate and wholesale markets in Bahrain and also delivers cutting-edge fixed and wireless telecommunication services to its customers in Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt.

In December, 2012, the Batelco Group announced the acquisition of various companies from Cable & Wireless Communications which comprise its Monaco and Islands Division. Batelco will acquire the entire CWC interest in The Maldives, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, the Seychelles, South Atlantic and Diego Garcia as well as a 25 percent shareholding in Compagnie Monagesque de Communications SAM which holds CWC's 55 percent interest in Monaco Telecom, for a consideration of $680m.

In January, 2013, the Batelco group announced that its shareholders have voted to approve its acquisition of the various companies from Cable & Wireless Communications that comprise its Monaco and Islands division.
