Ravi Sethi

Ravi Sethi is an Indian computer scientist retired from Bell
Labs and now president of Avaya Labs Research. He is best known as one of the
three authors of the classic computer science textbook Compilers: Principles,
Techniques and Tools, aka the Dragon Book.

While working for Bell Labs he was awarded the Distinguished
Technical Staff award, and was named a Fellow of the Association for Computing
Machinery. In 1996, he was named research vice president in charge of computing
and mathematical sciences and, additionally, in 1997, chief technical officer
for Lucent's Communications Software Group. He also serves as a member of the
National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering
(CISE) Advisory Committee, which promotes basic research and education in
computer and information sciences and engineering. Such technologies affect
nearly every facet of modern life from agriculture to manufacturing, health and
education. Sethi is a doctorate holder in electrical engineering, specializing
in computer science, from Princeton University.
