Surana Telecom, part of the Hyderabad-based Surana Group, is into
manufacturing JFTC, jointing kits, optical fiber cables and optical devices. It
reported a turnover of Rs 103 crore in FY 2001-02, with revenues from PIJF
cables, OFC, and joint kits being Rs 87.1 crore. BSNL/MTNL and defense were the
main customers. It received orders worth Rs 62.50 crore from BSNL alone.
The cash cow for the company is its JFTC division. Its total supply of PIJF
cables has been 7.089 lckm, worth Rs 65 crore. Surana has however begun to
actively look at the OFC segment and supplied about 722 rkm of OFC, making Rs
4.8 crore in the process. Surana established a manufacturing plant in Goa. It
also established a manufacturing facility for optical fiber in Hyderabad, with a
capacity of 2.5 lakh km. Exports stood at Rs 1.44 crore, with shipments to
Italy, China, and Germany.
Further, it has also undertaken manufacturing of T&M instruments of fiber
optic network equipment in cooperation with Anritsu Corp, Japan.

In FY 2001-02, it planned further diversification into services. It
established a multimedia and software division and a channel network covering
several towns in Andhra Pradesh. It also introduced netFONE range of products.
This year, it proposes to supply fiber distribution management systems.
