Sasken Communication Technologies, a Bangalore-based company, whose expertise
lies in the wireless and communications technology space, provides telecom
software services and solutions to network equipment manufacturers, mobile
terminal vendors, and semiconductor companies in the global market. The global
slowdown in telecom affected its fortunes. Sasken recorded a total sales revenue
of Rs 108.6 crore in the FY 2001-02 as against Rs 141.3 crore in the previous
fiscal. However, the company has positioned itself to reap the fruits when there
is an upturn. It reached the SEI CMM Level 5. And it consolidated its
restructuring process embarked in the previous year. It has four key divisions–broadband
access technologies, Internet access, mobile software, and services.
Sasken’s hybrid business model of products and services gives it the
necessary strategic advantage of having a strong skills base to address a broad
market. The services revenue stood at 61 percent and product revenue at 39
percent. The mix in the previous year was 53:47.

Despite the slowdown, Sasken’s R&D efforts remained spirited. It met
with significant success with its GSM/GPRS protocol stack development. Also,
under Sasken Partner Program, Sasken will ally with technology developers,
marketing enterprises and educational institutions.
