It was an excellent year for HCL Comnet as the company grew by around 44
percent, netting a revenue of Rs 188.6 crore.
The performance became all the more remarkable considering the fact that the
top 5 integrators had either negative or flat growth. Products contributed
around 63 percent of the revenue, consultancy and integration around 22 percent,
network maintenance and outsourcing contributed around 13 percent, while the
rest was contributed by security services. In the fiscal 2001-02, the company
emerged as a very strong player in both the shared and dedicated hub market,
which gave Comnet a good jump.
Most of the major VSAT turnkey contracts were bagged by the company. HCL
Comnet was very active on the government front and bagged orders from STPI,
Indian Oil, and NIC. On the manufacturing front, HCL Comnet bagged orders from
Ashok Leyland, Pepsi, LML, and ITC. On the services front, it rolled out LIC’s
south and central zone network. This was an important contract, considering that
LIC was one of the top spenders. HCL Comnet added new multinationals like Emerck
and Volvo to its list. In the oil industry, the company got orders from
Transocean and Reliance. On the IT-enabled services front, HCL Comnet handled
almost all Cisco clients like Vmoksha, DSS, Manjushree Infotech, and Eserve.
