New Update

An excellent growth of around 87 percent has helped Viasat to be a clear
leader in the VSAT (DAMA) market. In the FY 2001-02, the company netted a
turnover of Rs 75 crore and bagged orders for 1,200 VSATs, of which 1,000 were
from the DAMA segment. Viasat did extremely well on the front and captured
around 71 percent of the overall pie in terms of numbers.

With TDMA numbers shooting up due to the decline in VSAT prices, the company
was unable to repeat the same performance in the TDMA space and had to be
satisfied with a small share of around 2 percent.

The company did well on the government and corporate fronts. Viasat bagged
orders from Indian Oil, APNet and NIC.

At Indian Oil, the company is setting up a hybrid dedicated network where it
is supplying DAMA VSATs and hubs. It seems that the company also bagged a big
defense deal. The NIC deal for UP videoconferencing system using the VSAT
technology was a major gain for the company. Viasat also bagged APNet, a
distance learning project. On the service providers front, HCL Comnet, BEL, and
ITI did a pretty good business for the company.

Having done pretty well in the DAMA segment, Viasat is planning to make a
