Fiscal 2001-02 has been a remarkable year for Gilat as it has overtaken HNS
India. Gilat is now the number one VSAT vendor, both in terms of revenues and
volumes. The company did well on both shared and dedicated hub fronts. It netted
a turnover of Rs 89 crore, with a growth of around 37 percent. On the numbers
front, the company sold around 6,800 terminals, of which around 98.5 percent
were TDMA. Gilat had a small presence on the DAMA front, with a market share of
7 percent.
On the Ku-band front, the company sold two-way SkyBlaster VSAT network for
broadband applications to Comsat Max and Bharti Broadband. These services will
be in competition with DirecWay services of HNS and will target SOHO and home
segment for providing always-on Internet connectivity in remote locations and B-
and C-class cities. The broadband VSATs are available in the range of Rs 1.25
lakh and this will help in boosting the bottomline of the company.
