Telecom achieved a turnover of Rs 79 crore in 1999-00. The supply of telephone
instruments to DoT, Telecom Seychelles, Sprint Group, and Nepal Telecom along
with export to Sri Lanka, Oman, and Jordan helped it achieve this target. In the
last fiscal, the company registered a growth of 25.8 percent and sold around
18.8 lakh telephone instruments.

The company launched 11 new models in the last fiscal, which
contributed 73 percent of the total revenue. In this fiscal it is planning to
invest Rs 1.52 crore for design and development of US telephone series.

Bharti Telecom has presently an installed manufacturing
capacity of three million telephone handsets per annum and has a market share of
25 percent. It is the first Indian company to export telephone handsets and till
date has exported 10 lakh handsets.

With the changing needs of the customer and ever growing
volumes, Bharti has also upheld concepts of value engineering and product
enhancement. With the intent to supply high-quality products to customers,
Bharti has set up a Centre for Excellence with SMT machines from Phillips where
chip components are mounted on PCB’s with Fast Component Mounter machine with
a shooting capacity of 60,000 components per hour.

As part of its restructuring exercise in the current fiscal,
Bharti Telecom has hived off its factories manufacturing telephone handsets,
cell phones, cordless phones, and lubricated ducts for optical fibre systems
into a new company called Bharti Teletech. This will have three operating units–Siemens
Telecom, Bharti Duraline, and Goa Telecom.
